If this 685 transmission is the same as my 885 there is a 4 speed transmission lever and a high, low, reverse range lever. There is only one position in each of the ranges. Thus you have 8 forward speeds and 4 reverse speeds unless your tractor is equipped with a torque amplifier as mine is. This is controlled by an electric switch on the dash. Up and the TA is off, down and the TA is on. With the TA on the tractor will move slower in the same gear. The best thing to do is get the manual for this tractor from a Case IH dealer.
