O.T.-Barn Roof

Some kind of an animal chewed a hole in the barn roof. It tore the roofing shingles off in a 3'x1' strip and chewed a hole in the roof board. The hole is about 2" round. Anyone know what could have made this mess in the roof. Have only seen a squirrel and some crow's around the barn. Didn't think a squirrel would be strong enough to rip the shingles off, but the hole is about the right size. Thanks, NorminN.B.
