As someone who has driven a semi for thirty years, I can tell you that there is not a good answer to your question with out knowing what kind of a truck it is, what is in it for an engine, tranny, axle ratio, how much weight you are pulling. You can take a late model tractor, Detroit power, 9 speed overdrive, 3.55 axle ratio, pull a 48 foot step deck trailer, put 2 M Farmalls on it, and get about 8.5 miles per gallon with no trouble, maybe even closer to 10 mpg. But if you are talking an older semi tractor, such as a IH 9670, or any other cabover of that era, with probably a 400 Cummins in it you are talking about 6 miles per gallon.
