Well said, Kraig, You might remember about 15 months ago we were hearing the same kind of rhetoric from the Australians. They wanted no part of the Afghanistan operation; no basing, no over flight. This from a bunch of guys who might be speaking Japanese now if it wasn't for a bunch of Americans. Then things changed. A bunch of Australians got killed in a terrorist bombing of a tourist resort. The Aussies did an about face faster than you can say g'day mate; now they're all for preemptive strikes on anybody wearing a towel on his head. Seems to me a similar fate could befall Canada and wake them up. But what help would they be anyway. Of all NATO countries, Canada is 2nd to the bottom of the ladder in terms of defense spending per GDP. Only Iceland ranks lower, and they have no military. If they'd had to fend for themselves, they'd probably be speaking Russian now, and there'd be Baffin Bay gulag horror stories to tell. Seems to me that a lot of countries have been spoiled for a long time by having a red, white and blue eagle flying high cover for them. They don't realize what things would be like if that were not the case. The important thing for us to realize, I think, is that what they think makes very little difference in military or economic terms. So ignore what you hear from those we've protected for so long. Listen to what they're saying in the Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, or Poland, the Czech Replublic, etc. They're all behind us - because they well know what it's like to NOT be under the sphere of American influence - and don't want to be in that position again.
