Tractor History

I just got done reading a book that included some history of the IH 460 and IH 560 tractors. The book talks about the rear end troubles those two tractors had. Did the 660 have rear end problems too? Were they as bad as the book said with the tent thing and all? Production of the 560 went from about 22,000 units in 1959 to around 6,000 units in 1960. That combined with the 1960 introduction of the 4010 is why IH fell behind JD in terms of tractor sales. This has been my assumption and I don't know if it holds true or not. Another thing, how come IH didn't have a tractor to compete with the 720 for 2 years? I'm not bashing IH. I have a 240, Farmall M, and a IH crawler not to mention some IH pickups. Just interested in history of American tractors and I like all tractors.
