Hello, I used to work in a shop that rebuilt engines, and we got a lot of those engines. The head will hold the sleeves tight against the block, the top won't leak water into the oil. What we found was cracks in the lower web between the sleeves. Look to see if there is a crack at the bottom between the sleeves. I don't know of a repair for the crack, maybe some welders will know how to fix it. I understand from Lincoln they have high nickle welding rods for welding cast iron with stick welders, they just sent me an online video to show the process. If it is cracked and needs welding it will need to be welded up in the web to seal between the "O" rings. We used to repair cracks with tapered plugs called cold welding, you may be able to plug the cracks using a right angle drill to drill the hole for the plug, but space is limited, and we weren't able to fix those kind of cracks. That was back in the 1970's and there are more methods of repair now. Dennis Benson
