Need a little troubleshooting help here. The tractor is a little 1978 Kubota L225, 3 cyl. diesel: Went to crank one afternoon, and solenoid would engage, but starter did not move, and entire electrical system was dead shorted, except directly across battery posts. Disconnect either battery cable at the battery, ground-out cleared. Hit button to start again, and solenoid clicked once and grounded out again til battery post removed & put back. Took starter & solenoid to shop & got new solenoid. Reinstalled, and same problem. Disconnected wire from solenoid to starter button, and ran a wire directly from + battery post. Same Problem. Removed Starter/Solenoid again. Got jumper cables, ran neg. to starter case and + to + terminal on solenoid. Ran jumper wire from + battery post to solenoid starter post, spun like a top! (I assume this means starter & solenoid are OK?) Reinstalled Starter/Solenoid without wiring. Did same test with jumper cables, tractor started right up! Without tracing wire by wire (and there seems to be a bunch of them) is there any other way to pinpoint short location? Thanks for any and all assistance! Tommy D.
