DOuble check your linkage and make sure it is actually putting the truck into 4 wd. Those old Ford linkages liked to rust up and seize, which makes it real hard to hit 4wd. Get right down under it, have a buddy put the shifter through its paces. Now that you can see what direction to move the shaft, disconnect the linkage and see if you can get it to move into gear that way. LOTS of PB Blaster and a torch,can get teh shifter working again. Take it out and bring it in the shop to free it all up. Might need some new nylon bushings where the rust wore teh old ones out. Hoping this is your problem and not something internal. Truck
