J.I. CASE manual for my G310W shows thermostat specifications for gasoline manifold engine as 148 to 153 degrees opening, or 148 to 177 degrees for distillate engines. They also note that "the most efficient temperature for engine operation (burning gasoline) is 170 - 180 degrees F." "At 40 degrees, engine wear is over 20 times as rapid as at 180 degrees F", and "at 40 degrees, approximately 35% more fuel is consumed than at 180 degrees F." Then they cover what we discussed in the earlier post concerning dilution of crankcase oil and end with "This will cause premature wear of all reciprocating engine parts and seriously effect ring wear."
