The garage where I served my apprenticeship serviced cars, trucks and tractors so we got some work from the local USAAF airbase and got to work on some US cars which made a change from the more normal Austin and Morris British cars. Three speed automatic and we had to get up to over 50 mph before it would shift into top!!!! For comparison, an Austin 7 would do 40 mph flat out, eventually, down hill with a tail wind.
