The garage where I served my apprenticeship serviced cars, trucks and tractors so we got some work from the local USAAF airbase and got to work on some US cars which made a change from the more normal Austin and Morris British cars. I remember this make and style which has stuck in my memory for over 60 years. We had to road test the car after a repair so I went along for the ride, not yet having a licence to drive on the public road. Three speed automatic and we had to get up to over 50 mph before it would shift into top!!!! For comparison, an Austin 7 would do 40 mph flat out, eventually, down hill with a tail wind.
Studebaker

Had a 51 Studebaker Commander, V-8 with three on tree + overdrive. Traded my 50 Chev 2 door for it with my local friendly gas station owner. Smart aleck teenager, really upgraded a 6 banger for that big V-8, cost me 30 bucks for the trade. Kid sister said it looked like a 2 row corn picker.
Drove it a little over 4 months, decided to trade back for my Chev. Guy wouldn't give me any cash, but did throw in 2 new snow tires.

I spent most of a day at the Studebaker museum last month. Very enjoyable seeing the wide range of products the Studebaker family produced. My all time favorite the Stude golden hawk.

I've got a 1950 model out behind the barn. I'd sell it.

Looks like radial engine with propellor and wings to each side.

WOW! That is the same car and the same color except my grandfather's was a four door that he was going to give me when I turned 16. However, he pulled out in front of another vehicle and totaled it before I got it. So, I got a 1957 Pontiac Starchief instead. John in AZ

I always thought this particular year was a bit ugly but by 1953 it had morphed into a real thing of beauty.

Later came the Golden Hawk and the Avanti with styling way ahead of it's time.
