Stan, I don't think there is any difference. A breaking plow was called that because of the ability of the plow to cut through heavy sod. Thus "breaking up a new piece of ground for planting". I bought my first tractor when I was 15 back in 1953 and had a one bottom trailer plow behind a AC "B". This plow was a pain to break new sod because when you came to the center of the plowing area the plow would criss-cross the sod and it was an awful mess. I then traded for a WC with a 2 bottom trailer plow and I couldn't believe the difference. The extra share kept the plow going straight when I came to the center. I believe that a regular plow is what some people call them and a breaking plow is what other people call them. Of course, most plows are tractor mounted these days.
