You need to do a compression check. One part of it is to see what compression is in the cylinders and the other part is to see if the crankcase is sealed. The fuel pump may not be able to pump the required gas to the carb if there is a leak in the crankcase. Also if there is a leak in the crankcase it will run lean and you will burn it down.
