in the 3000 family... a

3100 was ag..could be had with 4 sp, 6sp, or 8 sp or sos trans. Ag tractors had the adjustable width front ends

3200 would be a rowcrop except no row crops were made in the 3000 family.... you have to move up to 4000, 5000, and 7000 to see rowcrop models.ie 4200, 5200, and 7200 submodels.

3400 was the utility version that had a heavier front end that was a fixed ibeam type that carried more weight than the ag tractor... other than the front end, the rest of the tractor was based on options... as to tranny, 3 pt, and pto configuration. But the front end was set in stone. Was popular for front end loader tractors.

3500 was the industrial model with a 10k lb front end axle, that had king pins and a heavy nose cone over the radiator. This tractor was the one used for backhoe frontend loader tractors. BUT the front axle and nose were what made it the 3500. Tranny models (including a torque converter and shuttle reverser), pto, 3pt, back hoe, front end loader were all options on the 3500...

a 3400 will share most parts with a 3000 of the same transmission configuration. but the front end and steering parts were a bit different as mentioned.

bouncing tach ... can be cable bad/dry, or the tach end needs lube, or there is/are dry parts in the actual mechanism. the nylon gear in the tach drive on the end of the generator can also be missing teeth or slipping at the cable slot. All these parts are available and reasonable.

The saga starts with the following message: Hey guys I have a decision to make. I know what you all will probably suggest and it will probably agree with me way down inside, but here it is. I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction, ... [Read Article]
