: : : How tall are the various compacts (i.e. their exhaust pipes)? : : : I'm looking at compacts, and I've learned a lot about what to look for from this discussion group and others. One issue I haven't seen discussed is which ones are too tall to fit through a 7-foot garage door. The actual clearance on my door is 82 inches. : : : I'm leaning toward used Japanese imports like Yanmar 1810 or thereabouts; but since I haven't bought yet, height info for the others would be much appreciated. : : : Thanks in advance. : : : -- Ken : : I agree with Fritz that the ROPS will be your biggest problem. If the exhaust stack is too high, you can cut it off or if you need the height, then make a removable extension for it. A folding ROPS is good if you need to work in close overhead quarters. : Okay boys, be easy on us beginners! Whats a ROPS?? : Brian ROPS stands for Roll Over Protection System. It is essentially a roll bar which is designed to be sturdy enough to support the tractor in the event of a rollover. It also serves to limit the extent of a rollover in most cases. It is useless unless used in conjunction with a seat belt, but the two acting together have saved many lives. Unfortunately many older (antique) tractors cannot easily be fitted with a ROPS, making them dangerous to use on hills.
