I have been considering buying one of those hi amp battery jump start packs and would like to hear from some of you that have experience with them. I've been looking at a 1000 amp (12V). They claim they will start up to a 7.0 liter diesel (I realize that could depend on a lot of things, temp, etc.). I did witness a farmer using one to help start my son's 9610 JD combine last fall which we were trying to jump start with two diesel pickups and not having much luck even after letting them both hooked up to the batteries for 15-20 minutes we were just getting a second or two of turn over. So along comes a neighbor and says "here, try this" so we hook up this little box with two short cables to the battery and walla, it cranked right up. I was amazed. From what I have seen, they are available in all sizes and made by a variety of manufacturers but when you get above 1000A the physical size grows somewhat and I would prefer to have something small to be able to carry in the pickup behind the seat, etc. It would probably used mostly on pickups and maybe small tractors. Would the 1000A be powerful enough to do the job? What are your experiences? Thanks.
