I don't want to start the usual war,I'm just asking a question that Farmallb's post down on Implement Alley got me thinking about. He was looking for an older Deere dealer because he wants a part for an older hay rake that,apparently a newer dealer doesn't have.
The question. Doesn't Deere have a search capability where dealers can find NOS in other dealers inventory? Agco has and still does do it for me all the time. The old dealer I went to would search the next one down the road if I needed something they didn't have,so I could go right on over and pick it up. I'm dealing with a new Agco dealer now that hasn't even been open very long. I needed seals for the lift cylinder on an old Oliver combine last year. I called them to see if they were still available. They said not new,but within a few key strokes,Tom started rattling off other dealers and their phone numbers,who had them NOS.
For that matter,I needed a throw out bearing for my 1365 Oliver last year. There were two choices and I wanted the right one the first time so I didn't have to take it back and wait for the right one if the first one was wrong. I had what I thought was the right part number from a bearing cross reference chart. It wasn't coming up,so the Agco parts counter guy called Agco tech support. He said ya,that was the right number,it just needed an H in front of it. He had the right one the next day.
Is it just "I don't care" service,or does Deere truly not have that capability?
