As some of the others have said "Big Time Operator". And the definitions are pretty accurate.

I will add that to many smaller operators it also is a derogatory labeling of arrogant large farmers who will do anything to grow bigger and who think they run the world.

Here we have two BTO dairies not too far from me. One guy from what I know is honest and treats people fairly. The only people who refer to him as a BTO are the smaller operators who are jealous. The other guy would cheat his mother on land rent if he could and is about a arrogant as they come. He hates anyone who will stand up to him because by nature he is a bully. He doesn't like me too much which can be understandable but his dislike stems because I don't let him walk all over me, my family (he tried) or my friends. Even the other BTO's (non dairy) in the area refer to him as a BTO. Couple of years ago he got caught cheating an old man on land rent when a friend knew his lease was up and offered the old guy fair rent for our area. Then this guy is mad at my friend and talking trash because he lost over 300 acres right next to his home place. Karma baby! The same BTO is known for approaching family at receptions after a funeral trying to rent land. Not a very nice guy.

Rick
