I am with you on this one. I too have blue bird houses and what used to be a good size covey of quail on our place. I have been working to make the habitat on our place better for quail and song birds. But all I can tell my work has done is made our turkey population explode. It seems the more turkeys I see the fewer quail I hear or see. May be all in my head. I am in south west MO and it seems we have a hawk on every pole and at night an owl in every tree. We are close enough to the city and hi way that we get a fair number of drop off cats also. A bird has to be pretty savvy to make it around here.lol. With my blue birds I am always cleaning the sparrow nest out of them and it’s not too uncommon to find a big ole black snake trying to get in there house. We do have a lot of martins and love them. As I get older and a little more mellow I find I get a lot of enjoyment just sitting on the deck in the evening and watching the birds go about their business. When I was younger I never took the time to look or enjoy them.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
