One tough cat

Serious business. I had one that sat in a walnut tree and nabbed squirrels broke their necks and carried them down the tree across the lawn like a lion with a elan, and proceeded to eat them. A big well done to your cat. Jim

Well, that sure takes the cake!!

We are impressed when ours bring home a pocket gopher or a good sized rabbit. But a turkey? Sheesh, that is one tough cat.

Have you ever tried to catch a cat??? We had to catch a small female cat of my wife's when we moved. That cat could not have been more than 5-6 lbs. I had on a Carhart coat and welding gloves an still got chewed up. I would say pound for pound a cat is a tough thing to beat.

The dog got into the carcass once the cat drug it up, I tried to catch the dog dragging the carcas around, as figured she puked it up later.

My wife watched our cat kill a squirrel last week. That would have been something to see. I would have thought the squirrel would chew or scratch it's way out of that.

When I worked in the Mines in Death Valley, CA , my wife & I lived in the Company's Mobile Home Park. One day while getting ready to go to work I heard a commotion outside on the patio, I went out and our big tomcat had 2 Pitbulls cornered under the patio table. LOL

I'll agree with that! If you've got a 'watch cat' you don't need a watch dog!

Growing up on the farm we had a tough old tom who used to bait the dogs (the young and not yet educated ones) to get close. He would just sit there and the dog would come up sniffing and growling, until he got close enough to reach and the cat would then just tear it up and send it howling. Us kids thought it was funny to watch, mom didn't because she had to mop up the blood.

Had a moma cat one time that sent a coyote a running. If I hadnt seen that with my own eyes I would never have believed it.

We had a cat called TC as a kid - stood for Top Cat. He was 21 lbs, missing 1/2 of one ear somehow. He used to sun himself on the sidewalk in front of the house. One day, the neighbor's male Chihuahua went after TC. TC rolled on his back, grabbed the dog, ripped the dog up with his claws, and then bit the dog in the nuts. They had to put the dog down, his cohones were bleeding real bad. The neighbor's were furious, but my dad was laughing his butt off!

Even the tame cats can sence it when you want to catch them,so I use a fishing net. Works pretty good.

I had a cat when I was a kid that terrorized the neighborhood. It was a street fighter. It jumped on dogs backs, bit and clawed any stranger that attempted to pet it. One woman came after it with a broom and it climbed up the the broom pole and chewed up her arm!

I get wild turkeys around my place once in a while. About a year ago, my grandkids and I were startled to see one of my neutered male cats dashing at full speed after a hen on a path in the woods. The turkey took off before the cat could reach it, but he obviously had malice in his heart.

No turkeys here, but since Jeff started farming and we have cats around, the garden raiding rabbits have sure been cleaned out. We have, however had a couple of the cats bring home red tailed hawks about 4 days apart. They weren't full grown but they were flying size. They were not nestlings. Only two possibilits we can think of was they were on the ground eating and the cats snuck up on them or they attempted to take the cats and got the tables turned on them. At any rate, the kittens ate well for a few days.

Don't like cats, but they do impress me.
having to get strays or drop-offs out of my buildings by hand has got me a lot of scars. impossibly fast writhing demons.

Watched one stalk my dog who was rustling leaves.
Twice the cats size, figured the cat would back off when he realized...uh..dog. Nope. I waited until he gathered himself to leap, then yelled him off. He was going to give it a go.

Best story I didn't see, but heard. Neighbors cat, who is cared for but is not a house cat. He is always around here grabbing chipmunks..good cat. Woke up, middle of the night to a battle outside my window. More than one coyote, furious cat, very loud fight. That's a shame...cat is history.
Next day, neighbors cat had survived..after healing up, still a good hunter. tough critter

I am probably on the other side of this issue. Now, a good barn cat is great!

But the damned feral cats are fair game to me.

I do bobwhite quail habitat restoration on my place, and I have made and put up about 40 blue bird houses. I like song birds, and quail. And rabbits around our place are pretty few and far between.

A danged wild cat is death on birds and small game.

I am probably a cat "ace" ten times over.

Looked in the dog house this morning and see some remains of a rabbit. Dont have a dog so one of our cats must have caught it. Have seen this before.

I am with you on this one. I too have blue bird houses and what used to be a good size covey of quail on our place. I have been working to make the habitat on our place better for quail and song birds. But all I can tell my work has done is made our turkey population explode. It seems the more turkeys I see the fewer quail I hear or see. May be all in my head. I am in south west MO and it seems we have a hawk on every pole and at night an owl in every tree. We are close enough to the city and hi way that we get a fair number of drop off cats also. A bird has to be pretty savvy to make it around here.lol. With my blue birds I am always cleaning the sparrow nest out of them and it?s not too uncommon to find a big ole black snake trying to get in there house. We do have a lot of martins and love them. As I get older and a little more mellow I find I get a lot of enjoyment just sitting on the deck in the evening and watching the birds go about their business. When I was younger I never took the time to look or enjoy them.

I've got a 21 Lb Maine Coon Cat.....he's a real good hunter.
However.....I've seen him several times "observing" turkeys in our yard....never tried to catch one that I know of.
He does the same thing with deer....just sits there "observing" them. LOL
