: Neighbor has a 4 banger that seems to only run on one cylinder part of the time. It has new plugs, wires & dist. The front (#1) plug looks good but the remaining three are wet. Not much power. : Odd thing is that if you disconnect #2, #3 or #4 plug wires there is no change but when you reconnect it and have the wire just starting on the plug the RPMs increase noticably. With all three of the wires just haning on the power is improved. : This is no way to run a tractor. Any Suggestions I can pass to my neighbor. Hi Dave, You didn't mention if the plugs were wet with fuel or oil. Either way the reason the plugs will not fire is because they are wet. The oil or fuel makes a path for the current to pass through instead of across the gap. That is why it will sometimes fire when you hold the plug wire back. That will allow the high voltage to increase and maybe jump the gap. I'm wondering if he is using champion plugs. I have had some problems with champion plugs increasing in resistance. I guess that you are running resistor plugs. A typical resistor plug, if I remember correctly will measure about 10,000 ohms form the wire connection to the electrode. Your friend may just need a new set of plugs. They have to be dry regardless. My next question is why are they wet. If it is oil, he may have an oil consumption problem and a hotter plug may help. If it is fuel, it may have been just flooded or he may have a carburetor problem. Let us know what you guys find! Good Luck! Keith
