First, speeding ticket I ever got was in my '55 Chevy wagon headed down I-77 in South Carolina back toward Charleston, where I was stationed at the time. The trooper said he had clocked me at 70 in a 55, and I was guilty of the 70, but only because I thought the speed limit was 65. Thankfully he wrote me up for 60 in a 55 since the 65 zone did start about 1/2 mile past where he clocked me.
I was even more thankful that he didn't know the whole story. When I passed him I didn't even have my foot on the accelerator. In fact all I was doing was coasting back down from the 120 I had been doing a few miles further back. Now that was my lucky night.....
The funny thing about the whole deal was that as many times as I had been back and forth home no one had ever said anything to me about getting a ticket until that weekend. By the same token no one ever said anyting about having a wreck until the weekend I was towing the car back to VA with my new pickup. That turned into a brand new truck and a 55 both messed up because of a chunk of concrete in the road, right in a curve, that caused the car to go the wrong way and take both vehicles off their wheels. Not a good night.
From then on I forbid anybody to say anything to me before a trip other than "Remember, shiney side up, rubber side down..." Knock on wood it had worked for me now for going on 20 years.

While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery.
