I just got off the phone with the only store in Terre Haute that sells purolator filters, Advance auto. I gave them my kaw # and he crossed it to a purolator(wix) filter, $4.29. Called Kaw dealer in town, they want $11.79. I have a JD275 with kaw engine, bought it used, and it has a sten oil filter on it. So if a sten is good enough for that engine, I'm not concerned about using a car filter. I don't think the stens filter has a anti-drain, by pass device either. I'll know for sure after I replace it and cut it apart.

Glad to know that some of you are using car filters on lawn mower engines with positive results. So, if I can buy a car filter for $4.29 I won't pay twice as much more kohler and briggs filters at rural king. 3 times the price at the mower parts place.

As for the mule, I plan to research that more.

Does anyone have something bad to say about the purolator filter or using car filters on lawn mowers? If so, please link me to the bad reviews.

I still can't find anything about who makes the mule filter, what the specs are. I can see inside my old filter, the mule filter has either a drain back or pressure release in the bottom of the filter. There is no way I plan to use a stens filter on it, even though some places on ebay say I can.

So are there mule owners who use another filter other than a kaw filter? Any mule owners have a cheaper source for kaw filters. My research on ebay shows after shipping they are more.

Who makes the kaw filter? Made in Japan? Any specs on the kaw filter is appricated.

I've been researching alternative filters for 3 days now and not coming up with answering the above questions.

Until I began the research on filters, I wasn't aware a car filter would work on small engines, good to know I think.

MANY THANKS TO U-ALLS.

George
