Wife and daughter came home Sunday evening with a surprise for me.....Now understand we've currently got a female Chihuahua, a male Lab, and a turtle, so I've been very adamant in saying that we needed, "NO MORE ANIMALS". Now imagine being faced with one of the cutest little faces you've ever seen in the form of yet another puppy.
Seems my wife and daughter had stopped at the grocery store on the way home and there was a box sitting at the edge of the parking lot close to where they parked. My daughter looked at/in the box an there inside sat this little puppy. Seems some sorry individual had pretty much thrown this puppy away. What they did was write "Free to a good home" inside the box, and also the word Chorkie (which we assume means it's a cross between a Chihuahua and a Yorkie...and it does have a bit of the look of both). Too, it's old/big enough to eat soft dog food, but still so small that it's maybe twice as big as your hand. In other words, size wise it fits that type of small breed also.
The one thing in the sorry individuals favor is that they left a plastic coffee can half full of food for it. Fortunately we've also had a warm spell the past few days, with temps in the high 60's to low 70's, so at least he didn't freeze to death. The bad thing is it has been pouring down rain all afternoon and the poor little guy was soaking wet. Once back here he acted like he was starving, and had it not been for the rain, he would probably have been dehydrated also, as there's no telling how long he had been left out there.
I guess I've just got a soft spot for underdogs and mutts, especially ones as cute as this one. I'm guessing the reason this one got thrown out is that it appears to have been born a 'bobtail', and if it's the cross-breed stated in the box it should have a regular tail. Wife's going to take it to the vet first of the week to have it checked out, but right off he seemed to be healthy, no fleas or other parasites readily apparent, nor any sign of Parvo or anything like that. The best thing is that the other two dogs seemed to be very accepting of the little fellow. The Chihuahua even seemed to be taking somewhat of a motherly, protective posture with him, even though she has never had puppies of her own.
Ultimately the best dogs I have ever had have always been mutts, so I guess I'm having high hopes for this little guy from the word go.....whether I wanted another dog or not....LOL I guess when it comes to animals I just have a soft spot.... but when it comes to humans, I will never understand the mentality of a person that would leave a puppy like this just setting in a box in a parking lot, expecting/hoping that someone would see it. In this day and age of the computer, Facebook, Craigslist, etc, etc, etc, there are way too may ways for someone to find a good home for a puppy...especially one as cute as this one... In my opinion a person sorry enough to just throw on out like this (even thought it was in a box with 'free food' too) ought to be taken out back and whipped with a buddy whip until a little 'sense' is whipped into them............because I have no soft spot for sorry idiots, and there's just no excuse for anyone treating a puppy like this...... when doing it the right way would be just as easy............
