1994 Chevrolet Beretta, 3.1 V6, 129000 miles.
Recently purchased, it was parked for about 10 years(but occasionally started and moved around) after previous owner died.
The first couple times I drove it, it was fine, only went a few miles each time. Now it's fine cold but after a couple miles it will suddenly downshift from 3rd to 2nd. If I stop and start again, it still only has 1, 2 and reverse. It does not slip at all, gears it has are solid, just won't go to 3rd.
It will occasionally pump the trans fluid out the top of the dipstick tube. This has happened two or three times, probably a few cups of fluid each time. Never seen one do that before. Fluid was not overfilled when this happened.
I dropped the pan tonight, fluid looked old but not burnt. No excessive debris in the pan. Filter is enclosed(tin on top and plastic on bottom) so I can't really tell how dirty it is.
If I understand this trans correctly, it has shift solenoids and TCC solenoid behind the side cover.
Do I have a line blockage / fluid pressure / circulation issue? Or is this an electrical problem? Connections all seem tight. My first guess would be a sticky/malfunctioning valve from sitting.
Suggestions and opinions are appreciated. My apologies to those who are offended by O/T posts.
