I bought this old John Deere 420 project and now I am waking up to my big mistake. Now this thing does run but not too great. Maybe it is because the gas tank had some 5 year old fuel in it or maybe it was because the tractor had not been started for 4 or 5 years. Now the crankcase did have good looking oil in it, in fact it had several gallons of oil so I know the crank was well lubed.
The three point and pto seem to work OK but the previous owner seemed to believe more oil is better because the tranny and the rear end are over full. Better than no oil I guess.
No fenders but good rear tires. No seat cushions and no power steering. Now that I think about it those JD junkies will think it is just the perfect tractor. Not good for much but it is green. I will get it running and put a "for sale" sign on it and soon another JD guy will get his fix. Tractor is here in NNY near the border with the British Colony.
