Thats a great memory for you and him. Reason I say this, and I'll bet I was about the same age, pre-school, my one and only grandfather came to the farm to visit and watch over me while the parents were gone which was quite a bit. I remember him and I planting tomatoes in this little plot next to the old milk house, nice dark easy to work soil, its the only thing still standing of what was once a great ole farm, huge victorian house and 2 large barns. Its a fond memory, a little hazy and surreal, but I can still recall it in full color so to speak LOL ! I learned that from him, how to plant tomatoes. I have planted them just about every year since those days. He was not around much longer, a stroke ruined him, dummy went off his BP meds for some stupid reason, he came back from a vacation in Europe, was found slumped over in the kitchen, he was never the same and spent most of his remaining days in the V.A. Hospital and nursing homes. I also learned about death that same day we planted the tomatoes, one of our cats either got hit by a car or something bad it had these bloody lacerations on it. So we made a cross and gave it a proper burial him and I. I was ok with it, learned to accept that this happens, being so young its all new to you, kids are resilient, more than adults I think. These memories are absolutely priceless, enjoy as many as you can, you or he will never regret it. I only got to know him and one grandmother on the other side who lived til 1996 or so, she was 87 years old.
