I found out yesterday, a friend's son at about twenty years old can't find a job mainly because he doesn't have a license because he won't drive because he's afraid he'll hit something. Since he graduated HS he has held two jobs for about two months each. He told me himself about four years ago that his primary activity is "gaming", playing computer games. He helps once in a great while with something at church but he moves so slowly that he hold things up considerably. Yesterday his father was going on about how potential employers expect too much information and that the state government won't cooperate at giving them the help they need. Nothing is his or his son's fault. Two years ago I was at their home to help them with something and It was hard to find a place in the house to step due to all the junk spread on the floor. The three kids were sitting watching TV. This situation is on top of that of my neighbor across the street who has a son in the IDENTICAL situation. I was spreading a load of loam no charge for them and the wife told me all about it. Their kid was being mistreated at school so she pulled him out. Now he bullies them, plays computer games most of the night, sleeps most of the day. She said that he punched a hole in the wall once when she tried to get him to do something. One day the two of them were working on a major yard project, I saw him come out and watch them work for a few minutes, then he went back inside. I know that most kids are doing a lot and end up good despite problems during teen years, but it seems that there are more and more parents who are abdicating parenting.
