The melons are a bit early, but not by much. They taste wonderful by the way. I agree with the dry stem, but with our heat they tend to crack open if we wait too long. Of course the chickens like it when that happens! She cuts them open and digs out all the red, and whatever is left goes to the chickens. Sometimes the rind can be a half inch thick, but they eat every bit of it.
