Guess I've had pretty good luck, lending stuff over the years. Neighbor was a peach- he'd borrow my Oliver 550, and fix whatever needed- including clutch the failed under his watch. Didn't tell me until he brought it back, and I finally talked him into letting me pay for the parts, at least. He and a retired machinist friend had fun rebuilding a tooth on the bull gear of my baler, again, no charge.
Another guy would borrow my car trailer to go get his FIL's tractor in the spring, and again to take it home in the fall. I wouldn't take anything for the loan, so the third year, he brought it back repainted, and the bent fender repaired.
Only sort-of downer was when another neighbor borrowed my baler when his jumped time and busted a bunch of stuff. He baled my last field on time, like he promised, and brought it back in good shape. A few months later, I had a little digging project, so asked to borrow his backhoe. "Oh, sorry, I never loan anything out." "Well, you seemed to be pretty willing to borrow my baler." "I didn't know if you would loan it or not, and if you hadn't, there wouldn't have been any hard feelings." Not sure if that would have been the case, but I didn't hold a grudge, and he remained a friend. But he never asked to borrow anything again.
