Sounds like you only replaced the upper seal on the input shaft. The kit usually comes with pretty good instructions and there is really no reason for it to turn harder than before as you don't have to take any bolts out, unless you forced the seal and ring into place. One other thing, how did you take the pin out of shaft. It needs to be supported really well to not damage anything. All the other hints seem to be referring to the lower seal on bottom end which is a whole different situation. Maybe I am reading you wrong though.
