LOTS of things could come into play here. You should see about 30 psi at idle and about 39 on accel roughly. Basically you want it to increase with load, if it drops you have a fuel delivery issue, but thats probably not your problem. It is easiest to check so do that first. Is your ping at light accel or even hard accel? Try unplugging your MAF, this will richen the mixture a bit,does the ping go away? If so you could have a contaminated or failing MAF sensor. Do you have any oil consumption issues, if so you may have carbon buildup issues.I believe those have knock sensors, so any pinging can result in low power due to timing being retarded to try to eliminate it. Carboned shut EGR passages can cause issues, but almost always set P0401, and EGR is disabled an hard accel so unless it is only light to moderate accel ping its prob not egr. Without hooking a scan tool to it and looking at fuel trim pids, timing, MAF, HEGOs, Baro, and a few others I can't help you much more. I was thinking there was a different spark plug available also for ping issue in towing applications, but I am not sure it was for 99 era engines or the newer generation, sorry. Basically a colder plug. Hope this helps .
