I ran into a dozen, exactly one dozen intoxicated hunters in the Adirondack mountains 11 or so years ago. You don't have to wear a back tag, if you do, they know you are from out of town, I had forgot and had mine displayed. After greeting them "Hello, good morning, How are you ?" etc. while walking through, one said, you don't have to wear that here and it really pi$$es me off that you have one on in our woods. I responded by telling him what I thought, from a distance while gaining more distance. I then made sure to get some distance from them, flanked and observed their camp under some concealment. They were talking amongst themselves, fumbling around with firearms, reeked of booze when I was near them. These people, reckless hunters concerned me, I did tell em to buzz off too, but I made sure to count them and observe them for over an hour. The one thing you don't know about me, is not only do I carry a 9lb infantry rifle an M1A, with ease, I shoot it very accurately, had 100 rounds of ammo for that and a side arm, .22 with a box of 500 rounds, so that city slicker who back talked you, and you think is a pushover would not hesitate to respond if confronted, thankfully they did not, I went on my way, met up with my partner, and at the end of the day went right through the middle of their camp again, it was in the middle of the main trail. State land, groups of people with firearms, that are intoxicated, are on my hate list, done with state land hunting, no need to deal with people like this. More fun to run my tractor without power steering LOL !!!!
