The police in my area are spread so thin it's a joke even reporting stolen items. But of course we do. I marked some items (radiators) and found them at the scrap yard, called cops and they pretty much told me they didn't have time to mess with me. Said they couldn't do anything because THEY hadn't seen anyone steal it. SO either build a donut shop on your property or look out for yourself.
