I worked in the grocery stores for years. As a contractor on back up power systems. Sat in on many store meetings. I know for a fact that Albertsons,Tom Thumb. Krogers and many other stores. Did not want the self check out lanes. But the public did,so that is what they got. When those things went in. Store theft went up. Constantly having problems with them and were really a pain in the a$$ for the stores.
When they had the regular check out lines. People complained about standing in line with only a few items. So they went to the 15 items or less line. People abused that line and complained again.
So they went to the self checkout lines. Store theft went up,the things broke down and still people complained. So if you want to blame someone for a job being lost blame the public. Because they got what they ask for.
And don't get me started on the shoplifting videos I used to watch in the stores. People are really amazing at what they will steal.
