Dan, I reciently had the same delima. I found out that my 20 year old equipment trailer was no longer legal on major highways due to the MH axles and wheels. I posted the question on the tool or implement board of YT. One member from Canada quoted the law # for Canada but I never found the law from the US. The consensus seems to be that there are many of these MH axle trailers being used with out harrassment from "Johnny Law". Do not know what the legal problems would be if there were an accident traced to axle or wheel failure. Seems like the MH axles, wheels, bearings, and tires are not certified for long term use. Since a lot of my towing is interstate I elected to sell my trailer and build a new one. I could never figure out what was wrong with the MH axle and wheel assembly. They had good heavy Timkin bearings and looked like a heavy duty set up. Years ago I had considered changing over my MH wheels to something else but found no easy way. The MH wheels and tires are cheap. Check with MH dealers. They usually have some for sale. I usually carried two spares. BTW, In 20 years of towing I only had one blow out with a MH wheel and tire. Good luck with your trailer. ray

You can never have wide enough tires or heavy enough weights to get all the traction you want … unless you own a monster tractor. U
