I have a 300 that starts similar to this when it is cold. It takes off right away then immediatly dies. It must be cranked a little bit on full choke, then it takes off again and runs fine. At first I thought it was getting flooded. It would not crank much after that first pop, and I would have to charge the battery. I recently converted it to 12volts and put in a new battery. It has enough power now even in the cold to crank over quickly after that initial pop, and does fire up and runs fine. I don't think that air getting in around the hose will affect it as this is still ahead of the choke plate. It may just alow some dirty air in.
