I have a 1949 Farmall Super A that was converted to 12 volts negative ground before I got the tractor. I installed a Pertronix 1442 EI kit yesterday and now the dust cover will not fit back on the distributor. The magnet has a high lip/flange on it that prevents the dust cover from seating under the lip of the distributor so the cap will not seat either. I left the cover off for testing and everything works as expected, but now I have no dust cover. My FIL suggested that it is not necessary now since I do not have any points to worry about. So should I leave it off or possibly grind down the top of the magnet to allow the cover to fit? Or is there another option? BTW, I had to tap the magnet down on the shaft to even get the rotor re-installed with the cap.
