Heaven help you. I just converted my last tractor to alternator because of the Chinese junk regulator nightmare. I have thrown lots of good money after bad in the last 10 years on voltage regulators. I pitched 7 new junk ones in the trash yesterday that were on the shelf in the shop.
My advice? Find someone with a junk tractor and buy an original or look on eBay and get one. You have a LOT better chance of a 70 year old regulator working than buying a good one off the shelf.
Honestly, I would be using the field switch for a lot longer. Doesn't should like the best setup for a long lasting battery though.
