Charging on my H.

Been fighting with this for 3 years now. I had it charging good. 44
H with magneto. I hit a bump about a year ago and now the needle
on the ammeter stays at zero. I have a dead ground to the Field of
the VR that i have a switch on. When I start it I charge for a little
while at low RPM to recharge the battery then cut it off. Is my VR
shot? Also my battery never stays topped off. Kinda drains down
but always will start the tractor on the first spin. Any help?

If she charges when you dead ground the Field but NOT otherwise,,,,,The VR is bad orrrrrrrrr the VR isnt well grounded orrrrrrrrrrrr the wires bad from FLD on Genny to FLD on VR.

Heaven help you. I just converted my last tractor to alternator because of the Chinese junk regulator nightmare. I have thrown lots of good money after bad in the last 10 years on voltage regulators. I pitched 7 new junk ones in the trash yesterday that were on the shelf in the shop.

My advice? Find someone with a junk tractor and buy an original or look on eBay and get one. You have a LOT better chance of a 70 year old regulator working than buying a good one off the shelf.

Honestly, I would be using the field switch for a lot longer. Doesn't should like the best setup for a long lasting battery though.
