Busted Gears

Help needed on 1946 Farmall B. Thanks T_Bone for help you sent to me on 10/18 concerning trouble with distributor shaft not turning. I dug a little deeper into the problem and discovered I have busted gear teeth on the main gear running directly off the front of the engine. It aligns with the smaller one at the end of the distributor housing. The smaller one has like a centrifugal mechanism also. I expect I will have to pull the front end of the tractor off along with the fan blade pulley to get the main gear off. Do you suppose some of the metal from the broken gears could end up in the engine causing more damage? You know it would be so much easier if a guy had a or manual showing what this stuff looked like or what the proper name for some of these parts were. I guess that is why they call it "Learning by trial and error". If someone would recomend a repair book I could get a hold of, I would appreciate it. Do you suppose this would be considered as amajor problem or one that might not cost a leg and an arm to fix? (The broken gears, that is!) I would appreciate any imput anyone would have. I can give a fax number if anyone has a or information that might help until I can get a manual of some sort. Thanks a bunch! Jim - "Not too experienced!"
