I just put points and a condenser in an H4 magneto and built a little jig so that I can bench test it with a cordless drill. The problem I have is that I am getting current jumping from the output of the coil cap to the knobs in the casting where the latch that holds the distrbutor cap is. The currnet is even flowing through the rubber boot that covers the output of the coil cap. It appears as though I would have hot spark if the current was not jumping this gap. I have even tried a different cap of of another tractor and the same thing occured. The spark plugs I am using are bolted to a peice of steel which is bolted right to a the magneto mounting hole, so the plugs should be well grounded. What would cause this current to jump this gap? Thanks
