I agree, but don't be too scared of the starter. I have really ground and ground 6v starters on 12v in attempts to get balky tractors started, many times over the years, and have never burned up a starter. Also ran a 54 Chevy on 12v for 20 years with no starter problems. Maybe I've just been lucky but I think the 6v starters are over-designed for use on 12v. I hope someone can give us a technical analysis as to how the starter motor horespower requirements and amperage changes in using 6v versus 12v in the same unit. I like to look at it backwards, if you try to use a 12v starter on 6v, it definitely will overheat.
