The hydraulic unit is almost identical to the one on the 364 which we have.
We have had the same problem. You may want to take off the cover on the top of the unit and look inside and verify the safety chain is not broken or the chain is intact and the end of the spool valve that it attaches to is broken off.
Under the caseih.com part site for a 434 figure 5-13 item 13 is the chain in question.
To do most any repairs you are going to have remove the unit from the tractor and access it for the bottom. We used a engine hoist to lift it.
My best advise is to spend the money and get a Blue Ribbon service manual. With the manual,a hoist and some patience you can fix it. This site is a wonderful source of information...
