I haven"t had any more trouble with the shift linkage on my 1486 than on my 856s (same linkage as 1066) and the 14 probably has about as many hours. The AC hasn"t worked on my 1486 in 15 years and it doesn"t bother me any. When its hot I take the doors off and its that much easier to get in and out and its still quieter than a 1066 with the doors shut. The 66s are great tractors, but I spent too many hours in one with a cab listening to it howl. So I recomend the 1086 if you are going to use it very much, even in the summer its nice to have the cab to keep the sun off of you.
