Farmall 300 front wheel bearings.

I am sure this has been covered here before, but I have exhausted the search button above.

Replacing the front wheel bearing on my Farmall 300 rowcrop, the inner bearing on the right side was in pieces, race & spindle is ok I caught it in time. I removed the races with a punch & out came a metal retainer on both the inside & outside bearings, I assume these were for the felt seals, and were badly mangled when I removed them. After spending most of the day removing old grease & bearing metal, I am ready to order parts.

I have checked my part book & IT manual, and I am still a bit unsure of the best way to re-assemble these retainers & felt seals. The bearings & races still had IH stamped on them with the part number so I think I am dealing with an original configuration. I have the cast hubs p/n 8274DB.

I have done many cars & truck front wheel bearing inner & outer races, bearings & seals, but have never run across this felt seal installation.

I can get the bearings, seal & races locally, and have seen the kits on line that include the rear felt seal & retainer, but none include the outer bearing retainer & felt.

Can anyone offer any experience in the best way to assemble this correctly ?? Are these felts necessary?
