how did you rebuild the motor for under $250. The pistons alone on mine cost that much! I had about $1500 all said and done in mine last spring. Although I did EVERYTHING! cut the crank, reconditioned the rods, bored 20 over, new pistons, rings, all bearings, decked the block and the head, fresh valve job, new lifters, new springs, Updated the exhaust springs to rotators, I even saved money on the machining since he is a friend of mine and he stores motors and such in my barn. How did you do all that, or did you reuse your pistons? I use my Cub ALL summer so I needed it tip top shape. Geezzz I hope it last another fifty years! As for this Cub, I would guess that there could be a wrist pin problem. If this thing sat for a long time the pin could have rusted and then sand papered the piston out so that a knock developed. This would cause the noise to be high like he described. Without hearing it though, I can only speculate. Also It might not hurt to plastigage the rods since you can't always tell if there is something wrong by wiggling. You have to remember, a few thousands outa of whack will cause a knock at 1850 RPMs but when you wiggle the rod that same tolerance will feel tight. Just a thought.
