According to the engineers I talked to, they really didn't use a primer before 1965 on the whole tractor. On engine blocks, transmission casings, and other parts that held oil, they used a whitish sealer if oil was leaking through a pourus section of the cast iron. Sometimes they had a bad day, and entire blocks and casings would be white. Some individual parts would also be painted by the outside factory, like generators and starters.
