You should never let a radiator shop diagnose your radiator. Especially the old ones that were ruggedly built. They know that you know it is old and play on that awareness. The standard business model for those guys is to condemn everything after a sufficient delay while they "evaluate' it. Some may even poke holes in it to "prove" it is junk.
Those scumbags could install the outlet plugs, attach the test air, and sink it in their tank while you observe everthing. It wouldn't take more than two minutes after you enter their shop (most of which are ratholes).
They have lost sight of the fact that the customer wants a repair rather than some imported piece of crap. They are simply radiator brokers rather than service providers. Feck them. Do your own diagnosis and mark the spot(s) you want repaired or do it yourself. I'm sure there are on-line how-to sites for radiator repair.
