Hello there, I have lurking on the site for some time reading and educating myself and am now at the point where I need to reach out to the group.
I came into the possession of 58 450 tractor in Jan of this year. It was my grandfathers tractor that he bought nearly new and kept until his passing in 2008. The tractor had last been started in 2004-05 time frame, with the motor locking up after this point. I did everything I know to get the motor un stuck but it was not happening so I ended up tearing it down. Once the head was off I found the all four pistons were stuck, two of them very badly. I got the two easy ones out and the other two eventually came out taking the liners with them.
I now have the all the pistons out, and the liners reinstalled. The pistons are in decent shape but the rings are bonded into the groves with corrosion. I have gotten the rings off of two pistons so far but it is not looking good for the other two.
Sorry for all the wind above, my questions are as follows:
-What or where is a good source to purchase pistons and or just piston rings? I find all kinds of rebuild kits but non where I can by engine component parts.
-Second question is in regard to ring size. The motor is a C281 but there are many different piston and ring options based on the size of the bore. I have measured the bores and they appear to be standard 4.125 but I am not generally seeing this in the listings.
-Lastly how sensitive is this motor? I am not and engine rebuild expert but I think I am competent to get the job done. If this is a very touch motor where every torque spec and clearance has to be exact then this may be out of my league.
